our story

How we began

We first met in April 2018 at Ashesi. Joel was walking towards the car park with a mutual friend when they came across Sagua, who was seated nearby and stressing about something, an activity that, those who know her well would agree, remains one of her favourite pastimes. Our mutual friend introduced us, and what was meant to be a brief conversation somehow turned into an hour-long discussion. We met again a day or two later and, once again, found ourselves talking for hours. Before long, these conversations became a regular occurrence.

There was just one problem: Joel never asked for Sagua's number.

As the days passed, Sagua grew increasingly frustrated by this glaring oversight and eventually decided to take matters into her own hands. She got Joel's number herself. Nearly eight years later, she still insists that this decisive act deserves full credit for the existence of our relationship.

Joel, however, tells a different story. According to him, he had noticed Sagua long before that first introduction and had already decided, deep in his thoughts, that she was the woman he was going to marry. In his version of events, he wasn't being slow—he was simply playing his cards exactly right.

Whether you believe Sagua's account of bold initiative or Joel's account of masterful strategy, one thing is certain: it worked out wonderfully in the end.

the proposal

The Beginning of Forever

Joel proposing

He began by creating a hand-drawn collage featuring some of our favourite memories together, accompanied by printed Polaroids from those moments. From there, we set off on a journey, revisiting several of the places that had become special to us over the years. At each stop, an audio narrator recounted the memories we had made there, reminding us of just how far we had come.

The final destination was titled "The Beginning of Forever." It led us to a beautiful getaway in Aburi, where a bouquet of roses awaited and our closest friends were quietly gathered nearby.

Before joining them, we shared a private moment in the garden. There, Joel spoke about his love for Sagua and the future he hoped we would build together. Despite having suspected that this moment might be coming, Sagua was still in tears. Then, with impeccable posture and a remarkably straight back, Joel went down on one knee and asked the question that changed everything.

She said yes.

Afterwards, we joined our friends for an evening filled with laughter, joy, and celebration. It was the perfect ending to one chapter of our story and the beautiful beginning of the next.

Questions & little notes

How should guests RSVP?

Just click the RSVP link and let us know if you'll be joining us. Think of it as your official response to one of the most exciting invitations you'll receive all year.

Are there any dietary options or restrictions guests should be aware of?

Not at all. Come hungry. Whether you're a devoted foodie, a cautious sampler, or someone who treats wedding receptions as an all-you-can-eat challenge, there should be something for you to enjoy.

Is parking available at the venue?

Absolutely. Your car will have somewhere to be while you enjoy the ceremony, the food, and the dance floor.

Are there any recommended hotels or accommodation options nearby?

Yes. We've selected a venue that is easily accessible for our guests. For those travelling from further afield, Labadi Beach Hotel, where the wedding will be held, offers convenient accommodation on-site. La Palm Royal Beach Hotel is also nearby and makes for a great alternative if you're looking to stay close to the celebrations.

Can I bring my children?

We kindly ask that this be an adults-only celebration. Unfortunately, we have already reached our quota of adorable children for the day.

Can I bring a plus one?

If your plus one received an invitation, absolutely. If not, we kindly ask that invitations remain as addressed. We promise it's a seating chart issue, not a personal one.

Can I take photos?

Please do. We'd love to see the day through your eyes. We'll also be providing a dedicated link where you can upload your photos afterwards, including the candid ones, the blurry ones, and especially the awkward ones. Some of those tend to be our favourites.

a note from us

Thank you for taking the time to celebrate with us. Whether you're travelling across the city or across the world, your presence means more to us than we can adequately express. We are incredibly grateful to share this special day with the people we love most, and we cannot wait to laugh, celebrate, dance, and make memories with all of you.
